Pedestrian debates whether to cut between these two cars ...
Title:  Pedestrian debates whether to cut between these two cars ...
Description:  These are two of about ten photos I took of this man debating whether to cut through these two cars on what was a stopped KCS freight. I could hear the engineer hit the horn to signal that the train was going to move, and could also hear air brakes being released. Fortunately, the pedestrian backed out from between the cars and didn't try to cut through. Had he done so, his timing would have been perfect -- he would have been between cars on a moving train! It gets worse ...

KCS train moves by pedestrian who is paying no attention (except to me)
Title:  KCS train moves by pedestrian who is paying no attention (except to me)
Description:  Our intrepid pedestrian is looking at me instead of the train passing right behind him. The train is moving the direction of the arrow. At this point, he was standing between the center track and the outside track. He was not only not watching the train passing right behind him (what if a pipe worked loose from a flat cat?), he wasn't looking either direction for other trains. So, it again gets worse ...

Loram railgrinding train boxes in our pedestrian.
Title:  Loram railgrinding train boxes in our pedestrian.
Description:  A LORAM rail grinding train, moving to the left (caboose in the lead) boxed in the pedestrian between the background freight (moving to the right) and the LORAM rail grinding train (moving to the left).

The rail grinding train has passed, but here comes a UP freight!
Title:  The rail grinding train has passed, but here comes a UP freight!
Description:  The LORAM rail grinding train has just passed by on the track closest to us. Our pedestrian is to my immediate right, on track 2. Now, a UP freight is approaching him, on Track 2. When I looked to my left, the pedestrian was engrossed on watching the KCS freight on track three roll by, and was not looking towards the UP train. He had his back to it (and was actually looking somewhat to the left). He clearly had NO clue the train was coming, and it was coming at a good clip.

Run, Forrest, Run
Title:  Run, Forrest, Run
Description:  When I saw that the pedestrian was paying no attention to the UP train approaching quickly to his left, I ran towards him. Again, he was looking away from the UP train, engrossed on the passing KCS train you see here. He couldn't hear the approaching train either over the din of the KCS freight. He was standing just on the KCS freight side of Track 2, and I had to pull up because I couldn't reach him in time. I stopped, yelled three times "there's a train coming." Finally, got his attention and he hauled butt, as shown in this picture. I was using a fixed focal lens, btw, so there is no zoom.

Well, he made it, but not by much.
Title:  Well, he made it, but not by much.
Description:  The man has just cleared the tracks and is turning to look at the KCS train. He still didn't pay too much attention to the UP train.
