Pivot Span of the Red River Swing Bridge
On a cold dreary day (the only time you can avoid backlighting on the north side of the bridge), a view of the pivot span of the northernmost Red River Swing Bridge in Shreveport. A true rarity, in that the river has moved so one can walk right up to the pivot span (which ordinarily would be in the middle of the river).

Jim Dodds General I think I read about a bridge like this from the issue of Trains Magazine two months ago. It was in an article titled "Of Rivers and Rails," and was about the old Oregon Electric Railroad (now used by the Genesee & Wyoming short line company's Portland & Western Railroad) lift bridge over the Williamette River in Oregon, and its lift span is also mostly over land now because the river changed course. That is a pretty interesting rarity, isn't it? 4/20/2011 3:25:32 PM
